Many people choose to send down clothes to the laundry to ask for dry cleaning. They think that dry cleaning is better than water washing.
In fact, dry cleaning and water washing are two different washing methods. Dry cleaning is to clean clothes with tetrachloroethylene solvent. Water washing is to add detergent to wash clothes with water as carrier. There is no one better, for different types and materials of clothing choose different washing methods.
But I need to remind you that down jackets can't be dry-cleaned. Do an experiment and you'll see.
Down immersion experiment
1. Remove two feathers from a feather duster and fold feather stalks to confirm feather toughness.
2. Put two feathers into water and dry cleaning solvent respectively.
3. After standing for 12 hours, the feathers in the water are still very flexible. The feathers in the dry cleaning solvent are very hard and very flexible.
4. After testing, it was found that the feathers would break and crack after a long time and many times dry cleaning, which is equivalent to crushing grass after drying.
Dry Cleaning Are Not Suitable For Down Jackets
Dry-cleaning down clothes will wash down the surface of the natural grease, so that the feather brittle, broken, loss of fluffy feeling. The heat preservation of down is mainly maintained by the fat of down. Once the fat is removed, the down will lose its own heat preservation performance and reduce its service life. Therefore, under normal circumstances, down jackets are not suitable for dry cleaning.
So, since down jackets are not suitable for dry cleaning, why send them to the laundry? Isn't washing at home the same?
Washing Down Jackets At Home Is Risky
First of all, it is not recommended to use household washing machine to clean down clothes, improper washing can easily lead to explosions and other accidents. In addition, the down jacket will inevitably be stained with stubborn stains on the outside, and it is difficult to clean the family.
Professional laundries are equipped with large capacity washing equipment and drying equipment, can wash down for drying, down after thorough drying fluffy, good thermal performance. Usually we do not have such equipment in our family, only by knocking down to restore fluffy, but improper force is easy to break down the down or drill out from the clothing gap, affecting wear.
Therefore, the best way to wash down clothes is to send them to a professional laundry.
